The Vortex R10 racing ESC are Team Orion's high-end brushless electronic speed controllers for 1/10 and 1/12 scale vehicles. High grade components and a unique CAD designed aluminum case are used to achieve the best performance possible. At the heart of the R10 racing ESC series is the most advanced ESC software we have ever designed. This software brings you ultimate controllability with today’s high power brushless motors and LiPo batteries.
These ESC are also highly versatile, they can work in sensor/sensorless mode, they have forward and reverse capability and even a crawler mode (forward/reverse without brake).
Another great feature is the fact that these ESC can seamlessly switch from sensor mode to sensorless mode while the motor is running. If there is a sensor failure, the motor will still run and you will be able to finish the race.

With today’s high-end brushless motors and batteries, efficiency and cooling are very important. Our engineers chose aluminum over plastic for the ESC top case because it dissipates heat much more efficiently. The bottom case is still in plastic to prevent glitching and other nuisances. The top case also features mounting holes for the cooling fan.
Another great feature of the R10 racing ESC is the dual sensor port. The two sensor ports have two purposes, firstly they allow you to better manage the sensor wire positioning and secondly the port which remains free can be used to connect the ESC to the DSB-R digital program box without having to remove the sensor wire each time.

The Vortex R10 racing ESC are equipped with external capacitor boards. Thanks to this, the ESC size is reduced, it allows you to position the capacitor board where you want and you can also replace the capacitors easily should they become damaged.

The Vortex R10 racing ESC feature state of the art software that controls their function. The software factory settings are ideal all-around settings, but you can also customize the settings so that the ESC runs the way that you want. The settings can be modified by using the button located on the on/off switch.

The optional ORI65150 DSB-R digital programming box allows for easier setup and access to extra settings within the ESC. It’s also a computer interface. The program box connects through one of the ESC sensor ports.
The Vortex R10 racing ESC have been extensively tested by our international R&D team. We selected the best all-around settings for the ESC which gives it great performance out of the box. Those that wish to reach ultimate performance for their particular racing conditions can easily modify the settings as explained here. |
A button located on the on/off switch can be used to modify the settings directly on the ESC. Please click here to see the adjustable parameters |
With the DSB-R digital programming box you can modify the settings more easily, access certain “locked” parameters and access the three profiles memory of the ESC. Thanks to the computer software, you can also adjust all the settings from your computer, flash the special “Stock” class software with special timing settings and update the ESC software. |
Altough the R10 racing ESC series has just been released, it is already a multi-time national champion and world championship A-main finalist. The Vortex R10 Pro dominated the 2011 US Nationals. Not only was it used to win four modified categories but it was also, and by far, the most represented ESC in the 2WD Modified Buggy and Modified Truck categories. On the same week-end Martin Sørlie from Norway claimed victory at the Norwegian Electric Off-Road Championships!

The impressive racing results show that the performance of the R10 Pro is outstanding. Whole teams switched to the new speed control after testing it in their cars. Racing drivers are convinced by the new technology of the R10 Pro.
At the 2011 US Nationals Team Orion dominated the competition with the R10 Pro speed control. Jared Tebo, Dustin Evans and Dakotah Phend took the win in all the modified classes of the event. Below you can download their ESC setup sheet and try out the settings they used at the race. We also provide you with a blank setup sheet that you can fill in on your computer.
